1 C. elbow macaroni, uncooked
1 Tbl. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. salt

Cook sausage, onions, and green peppers in skillet with a little oil over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Stir frequently. Add tomatoes and buttermilk (or sour cream), macaroni, sugar, chili powder and salt. Cover and simmer 20 minutes. Stir occasionally.

Makes 4 servings.

Gramma's family lived on what used to be the outskirts of Kalamazoo while she was growing up. Though they were on the edge of "the country," she was not a real country girl and didn't have much knowledge about farm animals. When her family went to visit her uncle's farm she had opportunity to increase her knowledge, much to the sorrow of her uncle and cousins.

Gramma had never seen sheep before, and so when she saw theirs her interested was aroused and she decided to take a closer look. Being an active girl, she climbed over the fence to go over and greet the "gentle" creatures. The sheep were not used to girls climbing over their fence and did not want to be petted or looked at up close by this strange creature. So, much to her surprise, they exited the pasture over the opposite fence. Gramma's disgusted uncle and cousins had to go round them up and return them back to the pasture - presumably after removing one disappointed girl.
