Ship
Mark 6:47-51
And when even was come, the ship was in the
midst of the sea, and he alone on the land. And he saw them toiling in
rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch
of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have
passed by them. But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they
supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out: For they all saw him, and
were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them,
Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid. And he went up unto them into
the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves
beyond measure, and wondered.

There is many
a storm on the Jesus-way,
Many a storm I see,
When black is the cloud and the wind is loud
And the waves go over me.
But the Lord Himself is in my little ship
And the storm obeys His will;
At the word He hath said - "Be not afraid"
My heart and the sea grow still.

Proverbs 30:18-19
There be three things which
are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not: The way of an
eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in
the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.

Psalm 107:23-31 They
that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;
These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep. For he
commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves
thereof. They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths:
their soul is melted because of trouble. They reel to and fro, and
stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end. Then they cry
unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their
distresses. He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are
still. Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them
unto their desired haven. Oh that men
would praise the LORD for
his goodness, and for
his wonderful works to the children of men!
God works all
things together for your good. If the waves roll against you,
it only speeds your ship towards the port.
Charles Spurgeon

Eternal Father, strong
to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd’st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
O Christ! Whose voice
the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy Word,
Who walked upon the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
Most Holy Spirit! Who
didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
William Whiting
excerpt from "Father Eternal, Strong to Save"
The ships glide in at
the harbor’s mouth,
And the ships sail out to sea;
And the wind that sweeps from the sunny south
Is sweet as sweet can be.
There’s a world of toil and a world of pain,
And a world of trouble and care,
But O in a world where our Father reigns,
There is gladness everywhere!

Proverbs 31:14 She
is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

Luke 5:1-11 And it came
to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God,
he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, And saw two ships standing by the
lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing
their nets.
And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him
that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and
taught the people out of the ship. Now when he had left speaking, he
said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a
draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all
the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let
down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great
multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto
their
partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help
them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to
sink. When Simon Peter saw it,
he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful
man, O Lord. For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the
draught of the fishes which they had taken: And so
was also
James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon.
And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch
men. And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all,
and followed him.
